My greeting in Edinburgh was wonderful – Katie and William running towards me in the airport and giving me huge hugs before leading me to the car. William pulled my suitcase, which may have been as big as his eight-year-old self and informed me that he hoped it was heavy with presents. After some protestation, we dropped William off at school and Katie got me settled into the flat with a cup of tea before she headed to work. Just like my visits to her in years past, starting with the college house and its door marker “Katie, Doyle and sometimes Shannon”, I felt instantly at home at 11 Portobello Road.
We’ve had a great weekend of catching up on stories and photographs. Friday evening, I met Katie’s significant other, Bob, for the first time. He is very nice and we had a great time laughing and talking and I look forward to hanging out more during my visit. He took us on a Sunday drive yesterday (more on that later) and was very insightful to the sights along the way. On Saturday, William and I had a lazy morning around the flat while Katie slept in and later we all went out for a hike in Holyrood Park (pictures and details to follow) in the spectacular end of summer weather. Yesterday, it was a bit cloudy, so Katie and I spread out the beauty products, brewed a pot of tea and watched movies. And yes, there was LOTS of giggling :)
Today, I am again without my adopted family, Katie is at work and William at school, but I am enjoying the sunshine in the windows as I email, blog, drink tea and plan my sightseeing itinerary for the next few weeks. The other news is that Matt has been in touch (HOORAY!) and is doing well in Korea and is planning a trip to the Korean War Memorial next week. There is not much time or access for communication, but I cherish every moment we get. I hope you all had a great weekend and stay tuned for some more blogging soon!

I told you Bob is a wealth of info...hope he doesn't bore you to tears while you're here!!
I don't think he'll bore me - I just hope I don't beleaguer him with all of my questions! It's not everyday that you get such access to a native when you are traveling!
I know...he loves Scotland...reads up on it's history and stays up on current events. He can tell you how much they paid for each nail that they used when building the parliament!! It was something like £10 a nail!!!! He'll be happy to have someone ask him questions since I just keep telling him, 'you've told me that already...you've told me that too...yep, remember you telling me that.' :-)
